My name is River, and this is my microcosm.

In the real world I am an anthropologist and (soon-to-be) folklorist; I study magical belief, superstition, and supernatural experiences with a particular focus on how these concepts affect ordinary people in their day-to-day lives. I have a BS in Archaeology and Anthropology and am pursuing my MA in Folklore.

The aesthetics of my website reflect my personal style and decorating taste, which I describe as "sensate maximalism". I seek out as many rich and stimulating textures as possible, but only ever the ones that I like. I collect religious paraphernalia and divination tools—you will see them here and there.

Beyond being grotesquely pretentious, I enjoy journalling, painting, sending mail, and going for long walks. I've spent the year so far exploring atmospheric jazz music. I do not really know how to code, but I enjoy the challenge of a creative medium that is unfamiliar to me, so I am learning as I go.

This page, like everything, is a work in progress. Eventually I would like to have more interactive elements that share more about me. For now I think this is enough.
